Daysy: Have you thought or decided about choices of college institutions?
Mads: Yes ma'am. College is most definitely in my future. I fully believe in furthering your education in whichever way you choose to do so. I plan on taking some college courses my senior year of high school to get a little jump start. After I graduate I plan on getting my business degree. After that it would be my dream to attend cosmetology school. Everything is tentative as I believe we all have our own plan but the lord determines our steps.

Daysy: What course have you chosen to follow for a career?
Mads: I plan to continue following my passion in the rodeo world and I strive to accomplish every goal I make in the barrel racing industry. It's a long, fun road that has to be balanced with the reality of getting an education and working a job.

Daysy: Any special books you have been reading this summer, that you could share as suggesting for our readers?
Mads: I've been studying the rule book for every different rodeo association you can think of, I love learning when it's some thing I'm super interested in. Personally, I'm not the book worm type but it takes all kinds to make the world go round!

Daysy: Why have you switched from regular school to a home school system?
Mads: It was in the middle of my 8th grade year when I started to have a lot of different medical issues. I spent a lot of time with different doctors at different appointments, therapy sessions, ect. I originally switched from public school to home school in hopes to stay on track with my education while trying to regain full health. After I got back on track from different injuries and a unusual muscle condition I started to really ride again. I hit the rodeo trail hard and decided that online school is definitely the best choice for me! I don't regret my decision for even a second, God had a plan for me the whole time.

Daysy: Do you have any fun moments in high school that are worth of laughs?
Mads: Here's a good one for ya... This Thanksgiving I underwent major surgery on my left knee. It was extremely painful but something that had to be done! As you know, Christmas follows Thanksgiving with little time in between! My family had planned a trip to Las Vegas to attend the NFR, I was not about to miss out on any fun! I flew from Maryland to Nevada in a wheelchair with a straight leg brace on. I'm a go getter and I love traveling, I love new experiences and I had never attended the NFR in real life. I've watched it on tv every December since I can remember. I was fresh out of surgery and still on many pain killers. I really don't remember a lot of my trip to Vegas. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, need I say more right? But I don't remember because of pain pills required after such a major surgery!

Daysy: How do you manage all the activities from school along with your rodeo activities such as travels, competition and everything in between?
Mads: Life is all about balance. Not saying I'm a balanced person but, I am constantly trying to keep my self up to date in all aspects of my life. School and grades are very important, in the VAHSRA (Virginia High School Rodeo Association) you must have a grade average of 70% in all classes you take in order to rodeo. The NHSRA (National High School Rodeo Association) is raising smart, responsible athletes. My family is my world, it important (to me at least) to have really strong relationships with everyone in your family. It may sounds cheesy but my sister and brother are my best friends in the entire world. I love my parents and they are my backbone. I skip out on a lot of the typical teenager stuff because I spend every weekend at a rodeo and I wouldn't trade that for the world! Managing the stress of competition is something I learned at a very young age as I grew up in the arena. Rather I am showing livestock at the local 4H fair or showing dairy cattle at the World Dairy Expo, getting a hold of myself mentally is important because fierce competition plays a lot of mind games. Rodeo in general is complicated and that's why I love it!

Daysy: How do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Mads: In 5 years from now I would be 22 years old. Hopefully I will have graduated school, working a decent job doing hair and making every women feel absolutely beautiful. I hope to work horses during the week with my future husband and rodeo on the weekends. Hopefully I would have found the balance of fueling my expensive passion and building my career as well as life along the way. My parents got married at a very young age but I love that they can really "live life" right along with me.
